'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Missing Young People Desperately Seek News After Ski Resort Inferno
The families of teenagers lost after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an painful period of uncertainty for confirmed information and requesting information about their children publicly.
The fire devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Circulated images show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Officials have stated that it could take an extended period to identify the those who perished of the fire, which killed numerous partygoers and injured another over a hundred. Authorities said on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work still underway to identify the other six.
In the interim, loved ones have been using online platforms to plead for clues about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that evening.
Appeals for the Missing
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, told a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to see if he was in the medical facility, while his father did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she said.
She continued that some of his peers had been located with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's foreign ministry has indicated that a number of of its nationals have not been located.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, originally from Italy but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is deceased, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "young athlete who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Other Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent said that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A companion informed me they fled after the fire erupted and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators commented, "He was known for his kindness and smile, coupled with great responsibility. He would frequently ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to reports.
Her brother has posted an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Officials from her other nation say they are actively engaged with the developments.
