Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
