A Ton of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a multitude of pursuits much better than checking the updates: opening presents, indulging in festive fare, and using deep breathing to not yelling at relatives. I hope you were able to do all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements emerged over the holidays, and if you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)
Truly the most surprising revelation, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to stop the series' continuation. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have dubbed it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a good sign. However, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it maintained the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now the community is overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio known for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Return With a Second Season
Immediately following the airing of episode 24, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has yet to be revealed.
